Meet Our Board

The Officers and Board of Directors of Eyes On Wheels (EOW) manage the patrols EOW performs for footrace and bicycle race events.  This includes recruiting riders, coordinating with event managers to identify patrol requirements, solving logistics problems, and managing the patrol during the event.  The Board responsibilities include operation of the Corporation according to its by-laws.  The Board sets the budget and approves participation in events, recruiting efforts, media development, and more.  Directors and Officers are elected to one year terms. Gary Wasserman

President
Over twenty years ago Gary volunteered for his first motorcycle safety patrol.  Since then he has patrolled for footraces, bicycle races, and a triathlon.   He has been riding since 1984 including cross country trips, long tours, camping trips, and group rides.  Many years ago he taught motorcycle safety courses in several states including Oregon.  Gary has been President of Eyes On Wheels since 2019.   His goal is to put Eyes On Wheels on a firm footing from which it can operate and grow into the future.

Jay Gilbert

Director
Jay has been riding motorcycles since high school. His first bike was a Honda 125cc and he has loved the thrill of two wheels ever since.  Over the last decade, he’s been touring the open spaces of Oregon and Washington on Honda Goldwings, BMW KT series, Yamaha FJRs and most recently a 3-wheeled Can Am Spyder RT. Jay joined Eyes On Wheels in 2022 by participating in two rides, immediately taking to the mission of runner safety and how motorcyclists could be part of the solution. Jay says: “Making a positive impact is what it’s all about and Eyes On Wheels serves that mission well.”

Michael McDonald

Secretary
Michael rode his first Hood To Coast patrol in 2008 and, with one exception, he has been on the route every year since. A Motorcycle Safety Instructor with Team Oregon since 2010, his passion for motorcycling and safety fit well with the goals of Eyes On Wheels where he has served as Secretary since 2019. Michael says: “What could be better than riding our motorcycles and making a positive impact on people and events in our area.”

Reno Challenger

Director
Reno has been riding motorcycles since he was 16. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, he moved back to Oregon.  He found Eyes On Wheels while searching for a way to combine his passion for riding, and his passion for serving the community. Reno rode his first patrol in 2023. He looks forward to watching Eyes On Wheels grow, and representing the great people in the motorcycling community.

Deb Wasserman

Treasurer
Deb has been involved with Eyes On Wheels since 2019. She is primarily responsible for budgeting and financial planning, and also helps out with patrol planning and logistics. Recently, she has undertaken the Eyes on Wheels website redesign.
