2024 Season Wrap-up

I’d like to thank everyone who participated in Eyes On Wheels patrols in 2024.  We fielded patrol teams for Reach The Beach, Cascade Lakes Relay, and Hood to Coast. Fantastic news:  Our Hood To Coast patrol included 4 (four) women riders, a new record.  This is a big achievement for EOW.  We have tried to attract more women riders for years.  Finally we are making some progress.  It was great to meet our first time women riders: Barbara Allen, Beth Vaira, Cindy Polenske, and Pam Barela.  Welcome! .

Another milestone for HTC is 29 riders.  Two of the riders rode both the Friday AM patrol (for walkers) and the Friday PM/Saturday AM patrol.  My hats off to Gary Roe and Mike Galloway for doubling up this year.  Overall for the season, we accomplished:

  • Total Riders Participating (some rode two or more events):  37
  • Total Patrol Miles Ridden (all three events): 9111 miles

Many thanks, too, to our event organizers.  Without Hood to Coast Relay, American Lung Association, and Cascade Lakes Relay we could not operate the EOW patrols.  Their commitment to participant safety is reflected in their long standing relationship with EOW patrols.

For the first time this year we received donations from a variety of sources.  Some patrol riders generously donated back their reimbursement.  We received a very generous gift through a family foundation, and many HTC participants showed their appreciation for our patrols by making donations.  For those of you who didn’t know EOW could accept donations you can learn more at eyesonwheels.org/donate and check us out on givebutter.com and guidestar.org. A very big thank you to all our donors.  We look forward to putting these resources to good use in 2025.  We’ll have more news about this next year.

Our HTC patrol was sponsored this year by Hapn (formerly SpyTec) https://spytec.com/. Hapn provided us with GPS tracking for the rovers.  They generously provided a month of free service so that EOW could evaluate GPS tracking for future events and possibly for all patrol riders.  Managing a patrol without knowing where anyone is can be quite a challenge and sometimes frustrating.  Thank you, Spytec/Hapn!

We’ll be back out on the road in 2025 and hope to see you there!
